We are in contact with HMRC in relation to delays being suffered by non-established businesses to obtain a UK VAT number.
HMRC have indicated that businesses should use the online application form (rather than paper applications) and that there are a number of very recurrent errors being made that have been noted which delay the processing of the applications.
A detailed note is to be produced and agreed with HMRC to ensure that applications are processed as quickly as possible. HMRC have noted that their objective is to reduce the processing delays to 30 days by the end of March 2021.
